Just received another custom-made holiday postcard from my friend from art school who has been living in Seattle for over a decade now.
An illustrator and children's book author, every year she creates a charming local scene with a rollerball pen on understated card stock, numbers it as in a limited edition series, always including a caricature of herself, and sends it my way.
The caricature has been a minimalistic constant: dark cropped hair, glasses, contentment.
14 years now.
Every year i am incredulous and deeply touched. I thank her.
As told to RJ, "What have i done to deserve this kindness?"
